Since 2004 I am working intensively in the field of media and religion with a particular focus on audio-visual and visual forms of communication. Most of my work has been developed within the research group Media and Religion, I founded in 2004 with a grant by the Swiss National Science Foundation for (media-relgion.org). Since then I have been working on theories and methods to analyze the interaction between religion, media and communication in historical and contemporary case studies. This part of my research in the study of religion has an interdisciplinary profile, based on a deep exchange with scholars in the study of religion, theology, philosophy, media, film, cultural and gender studies, history of arts and literature. I am interested in joining your initiative to have an exchange on different aspects of the complex interaction between media and religion: the challenges of digitalization, the understanding of religion as a multi-media communication system, the concept of medialization of religion and the cultural imaginary and, finally, the normative dimensions linked to the medialization of religion.
